TikTok Shop Vietnam for Brands: How Video, LIVE, Affiliate and Ads Fit

TikTok Shop Vietnam is not a single channel but a loop: a product page that converts, short videos and LIVE sessions that send traffic to it, affiliate creators who multiply that content, and GMV Max ads that scale whatever already sells. Brands that treat each piece separately usually overspend on one and starve the others. This guide explains how the pieces fit, what TikTok's own seller documentation says about each one, and which 2026 Vietnamese rules now apply to livestream and affiliate selling.

Short answer

How does TikTok Shop Vietnam work for a brand?

A brand opens a shop, lists products with complete pages, then drives sales through four engines: its own short videos, LIVE sessions, affiliate creators who earn commission, and GMV Max, which since July 2025 is the only campaign type TikTok supports for TikTok Shop Ads. Each engine feeds data and content to the others.

  • Product page first: price, images, claims and stock must be ready
  • Short video builds discovery; LIVE closes sales in real time
  • Affiliate: Open Collaboration for reach, Target Collaboration for chosen KOCs
  • GMV Max ads reuse your videos and authorized affiliate videos
  • From 1 July 2026, livestream hosts must pass identity verification
  • Influencers must announce advertising under the amended Advertising Law

1. What is TikTok Shop Vietnam and why do brands need a system for it?

TikTok Shop Vietnam is the shopping layer inside TikTok: users watch a video or LIVE, tap a product link and pay without leaving the app. For a brand, that means content and checkout sit in the same place, so weak content shows up immediately as weak sales.

In our campaign work, the brands that struggle are rarely short of budget. They run a burst of KOC videos while the product page still has placeholder images, or they buy ads before they know which hook converts. A system means deciding the order of work, who owns each engine, and which numbers you review every week.

  • Shop and product pages: the conversion base
  • Brand-owned short video: tests hooks and angles
  • LIVE: converts warm traffic and answers objections live
  • Creator affiliate: multiplies content volume and trust
  • GMV Max ads: scales the content and products that already work

2. Who can open a TikTok Shop in Vietnam?

Check eligibility before planning anything else. TikTok's Business Help Center page on seller registration (updated August 2025) states that you must reside in the country you choose for your shop, and a phone number or email can only be linked to one shop.

Foreign brands usually sell through a Vietnamese entity or a local distributor that holds the shop. Korean companies have an extra option: TikTok Korea's newsroom announced on 13 November 2025 a Korea-SEA cross-border solution that lists Vietnam among the markets a Korean business can enter with a Korean business registration, passport, address and virtual account. Programmes like this change, so confirm the current terms in Seller Center before you commit.

Under Vietnam's E-commerce Law 122/2025/QH15, in force from 1 July 2026, intermediary platforms must verify sellers' identity electronically before allowing them to sell (Article 17). Budget time for that step in your launch plan.

3. How should you set up product pages before any creator content?

Finish the product page before you send a single sample. Every creator video and every ad lands on that page, so missing information there leaks money from every other engine.

We use a simple readiness check per SKU. If any line is red, the SKU does not enter affiliate or ads yet.

  • Title in natural Vietnamese that matches how buyers search
  • Main images that show the product, size and texture clearly
  • Price and promotion locked for the campaign window
  • Claims that match your legal documents (for cosmetics, the product notification)
  • Stock confirmed for the expected creator volume
  • Return and warranty policy written in plain language
  • One short brand video on the page that answers the top three questions

4. What role does short video play in TikTok Shop Vietnam?

Short video is your testing lab and your discovery engine. Brand-owned videos tell you which hook, demo and price framing make people tap the product link, and those findings go straight into the creator brief.

Example: a skincare brand posts five variations of the same 30-second demo, each with a different opening line. After one week, the two hooks with the highest product-click rate become mandatory talking points in the KOC brief, while the weakest three are dropped. That is cheaper than learning the same lesson through 50 paid creators.

  • Post several variations per hero product, not one polished video
  • Pin a single product link per video so attribution stays clean
  • Track product clicks and orders per video, not only views
  • Feed winning hooks into the creator brief within the same week

5. How does LIVE selling fit into a TikTok Shop plan?

LIVE is where warm viewers become buyers. It works best after short videos and creator content have built awareness, because a LIVE converts demand more than it creates it.

Brands in Vietnam run two kinds: brand-owned LIVE on the shop account, usually on a fixed schedule, and KOC LIVE, where a creator hosts the session on their own channel. Brand LIVE gives control and regular data; KOC LIVE brings the creator's audience and trust.

Since 1 July 2026, the E-commerce Law sets clear duties. Platforms must verify each livestream host's identity before they can sell (Article 22), the seller must give the host documents proving business conditions and product quality before the session (Article 23), and the host must not give false or misleading information about uses, origin, quality, price, promotions or warranty (Article 24). Platforms must also keep the session's images and audio for at least one year.

6. How does TikTok Shop affiliate work with KOCs?

Affiliate is how one product page gets hundreds of creator videos. TikTok Shop Academy's Vietnam guide (updated July 2026) describes two collaboration types: Open Collaboration, where any creator can find your product and add it to their showcase, and Target Collaboration, where you invite specific creators with set products and commission.

According to the same guide, a seller can invite up to 50 creators and 100 products per Target Collaboration invitation and send up to 1,000 invitations in 24 hours. If a product sits in both collaborations, the creator receives the Target commission. If you lower an Open Collaboration rate, creators who already added the product keep the old rate for 30 days.

Our rule of thumb: Open Collaboration to discover who naturally fits your product, then move proven sellers into Target Collaboration with better terms, samples and a proper brief. For key creators you also book paid content, which you agree outside the platform.

7. How do GMV Max ads use creator videos?

GMV Max is now the paid engine for TikTok Shop. TikTok's Business Help Center states that starting July 2025 GMV Max is the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads; you can no longer create new Product Shopping Ads, Video Shopping Ads or LIVE Shopping Ads with TikTok Shop as the destination.

Product GMV Max automatically uses available creative assets, including affiliate videos that creators have authorized for ads. TikTok notes that affiliate videos featuring products in a GMV Max campaign receive a commercial content label, and that all orders for the advertised products, including organic and affiliate orders, are attributed to GMV Max while the campaign runs.

Two practical consequences. First, your creator contracts should cover ad authorization, so the best videos can enter GMV Max. Second, do not read the GMV Max dashboard as pure ad performance; compare periods with and without the campaign before you credit ads for sales that creators or organic content drove.

8. Which 2026 legal rules apply to TikTok Shop content?

Three sets of rules now touch almost every TikTok Shop campaign in Vietnam. Treat them as part of the brief, not as legal small print.

Advertising Law amendment 75/2025/QH15 (in force 1 January 2026) adds Article 15a: influencers must verify the advertiser's reliability, check product documents, not introduce products they have not used or do not understand, and announce the advertisement immediately before and during it. Article 23 also requires social media users who advertise to mark sponsored content clearly.

Decree 87/2026/ND-CP (in force 15 May 2026) sets fines for influencers who breach those duties, from 40 to 100 million VND for an individual depending on the breach (Article 6 doubles the amounts for organizations), and the E-commerce Law adds identity checks for livestream hosts and affiliate marketers. The full breakdown is in our separate legal guide.

9. How should a brand sequence the first 90 days?

Sequence matters more than spend. Here is the order we use when a brand opens or relaunches a TikTok Shop in Vietnam.

  • Weeks 1-2: shop verification, product pages, legal documents, stock
  • Weeks 2-4: brand short videos to test hooks; first brand LIVE sessions
  • Weeks 3-6: Open Collaboration with free samples; shortlist creators who post and sell
  • Weeks 5-8: Target Collaboration and paid bookings for proven KOCs; KOC LIVE
  • Weeks 6-12: GMV Max on hero SKUs using authorized creator videos
  • Every week: one report that combines shop, affiliate, LIVE and ads data

10. Example: running a K-beauty sunscreen launch on TikTok Shop

Example: a Korean sunscreen brand sells through its Vietnamese distributor's shop. The distributor holds the product notification; the brand team in Seoul approves claims.

Weeks 1-2, the page goes live with texture shots and the exact SPF and PA claims from the notification. The brand posts six short demos; two hooks (white cast test, reapplication over makeup) win. Week 3, the product enters Open Collaboration with free samples and the winning hooks in the brief. By week 6, twelve creators have posted more than once and sold; they move into Target Collaboration, and four are booked for paid LIVE sessions. From week 7, GMV Max runs on the hero SKU using authorized videos from those twelve. Each KOC video opens with a spoken and on-screen advertising label to meet Article 15a.

11. What should you measure every week on TikTok Shop Vietnam?

Measure each engine on its own job, then look at the shop as a whole. A single blended ROAS hides which part is actually working.

We separate settled revenue from gross orders, because cancellations and returns change the picture, and we tag every creator video so its orders can be traced even when GMV Max attribution overlaps.

  • Product page: visit-to-order rate, by SKU
  • Short video: product clicks and orders per video
  • LIVE: viewers, average watch time, orders per hour
  • Affiliate: creators who posted, creators who sold, GMV and commission
  • GMV Max: spend, attributed GMV and change versus a no-ads period
  • Shop health: cancellations, returns and policy violations

12. What mistakes do brands make on TikTok Shop Vietnam?

Most mistakes come from running the engines out of order or without one owner.

  • Sending creators to an unfinished product page
  • Booking big KOLs before any short video has proven a hook
  • Leaving every product in Open Collaboration with no follow-up
  • Forgetting ad authorization, so the best videos cannot enter GMV Max
  • Crediting GMV Max for sales that affiliates generated
  • Briefs without the advertising label required since January 2026
  • Claims in videos that go beyond the product's legal documents

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreign brand sell on TikTok Shop Vietnam?

Usually through a Vietnamese entity or a local distributor that holds the shop, because TikTok's seller requirements say you must reside in the shop's country. Korean companies can also look at the Korea-SEA cross-border solution TikTok Korea announced in November 2025. Confirm the current terms in Seller Center before you plan.

Is GMV Max the only way to advertise on TikTok Shop?

For TikTok Shop as the sales destination, yes. TikTok's Business Help Center says GMV Max has been the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads since July 2025. Existing older campaigns can keep running, but new ones use Product GMV Max or LIVE GMV Max.

Do KOCs on TikTok Shop have to label their videos as ads?

Yes, when the content is paid or sponsored. The amended Advertising Law requires influencers to announce the advertisement immediately before and during it, and social media users who advertise must mark sponsored content. Put the exact wording in your brief.

Should I use Open or Target Collaboration first?

TikTok's own Vietnam guide recommends starting with Open Collaboration to see which creators pick up your products, then using Target Collaboration with creators you have built partnerships with. You can run both at once; the Target commission applies when a product is in both.

What changed for livestream selling in July 2026?

The E-commerce Law took effect on 1 July 2026. Platforms must verify livestream hosts' identity, sellers must give hosts documents proving business conditions and product quality, and hosts must not give false information about the product, price or promotions.
