Using Creator Videos in TikTok GMV Max: Selection, Authorization and Reading Results

If you run TikTok Shop, creator videos can do two jobs: sell organically through affiliate links, and become ad creative inside Product GMV Max. The second job needs authorization, and the way you get it changes your contracts, your tracking and what you can promise creators. This guide uses TikTok's own Ads Help pages to explain how GMV Max treats creator videos, the difference between mass authorization and a video code, what makes ads pause, what to put in a creator agreement, and how to read results without double counting. The help pages we read are global, so confirm in your Vietnam Seller Center that each feature is available to you.

Short answer

How do creator videos work in TikTok GMV Max?

Product GMV Max automatically uses available creatives. Authorized affiliate videos appear when you set the video source to Affiliate post. If a video does not appear, ask the creator for authorization or use its video code with the TikTok post source. Creators grant authorization either for all affiliate posts or for single posts through a video code.

  • Affiliate post source shows authorized affiliate videos for the products in your campaign
  • Mass authorization covers all of a creator's affiliate posts; a video code covers one post
  • Ads on mass-authorized posts pause if authorization is turned off, the collaboration expires or the product link is lost
  • Commission to the creator may still apply when an ad uses their affiliate post
  • A diverse, sufficient creative pool helps GMV Max find strong videos
  • GMV Max attributes all orders for promoted products, including organic and affiliate orders

1. What Product GMV Max does with creatives

TikTok's Ads Help describes Product GMV Max as an automation solution for TikTok Shop Ads that optimizes for the shop's total channel ROI. It uses all available creative assets to build ads and set campaign settings, and it optimizes organic delivery and paid traffic together.

The same page says it can use shoppable placements including the TikTok feed, search, the TikTok Shop tab and the TikTok Ad Network, with video and product-card formats. Page last updated September 2026.

2. Where creator videos enter the campaign

According to TikTok, GMV Max automatically includes authorized affiliate videos that feature your selected products. To use them, set the video source to Affiliate post.

If a specific video does not show up, TikTok says you can ask the creator for authorization or use the video under its video code and select the TikTok post source. So the first operational question for any creator video is which of those two paths it follows.

3. Mass authorization vs video code

TikTok's help page compares the two. Affiliate mass authorization lets a creator who is an affiliate of many sellers allow all sellers to feature all of their affiliate posts in Shop Ads. It is switched on in TikTok Shop Creator Center in the app.

A video code authorizes one post. The creator turns it on in the settings of that post and shares a unique code with the seller, and the creator does not have to be an affiliate. TikTok adds that a code lets an advertiser use a different product from the one linked in the post, while mass authorization does not: if the post has a product link, only the seller who listed that product can feature it.

  • Mass authorization: all affiliate posts, one switch, product must match the linked product
  • Video code: one post per code, works for non-affiliate posts, can pair with a different product
  • Creators with mass authorization still need to share codes for posts without product links, or with product links but no affiliate collaboration

4. When ads pause

For mass-authorized posts, TikTok says ads pause automatically if the creator turns off affiliate mass authorization, the affiliate collaboration expires or the post loses its organic product link. For video codes, ads continue until the code expires.

Build both into your plan. A creator who changes their mind or lets a collaboration lapse can stop your best ad without warning, so track authorization status rather than assuming it is permanent.

5. Why the creative pool matters

TikTok's best-practice page, updated June 2026, says GMV Max explores all available creatives and that maintaining a diverse and sufficient creative pool helps the system find strong-performing videos. The page we could read gives that principle but no numbers.

For creator briefing, that points to variety rather than ten copies of one idea. Ask for different hooks, demonstrations and audience angles per product, within claims you can support.

6. Which videos to put forward

TikTok does not give us a threshold, so use your own data. Our working rule is to prefer videos that already convert through the affiliate link, show the product clearly, make claims you can document and match the current price and offer on the listing.

Remove or refresh videos with outdated prices or claims. A strong video that quotes an expired promotion can create refund and complaint work even if it drives orders.

7. What to put in the creator agreement

Write the authorization route into the contract: mass authorization, video codes or both, and who is responsible for sending codes. State how long authorization lasts, the notice period if a creator wants to withdraw, and that the seller can stop using the video at any time.

TikTok states that if an ad used an affiliate post, the order may still generate commission for the affiliate creator. Decide in writing whether the creator receives any extra fee for ad use, because the platform page does not set a fee for you.

8. Labels and disclosure

TikTok says affiliate videos that feature products in a GMV Max campaign receive a commercial content label, and that creators posting organic content that promotes a brand should apply the content disclosure setting.

Under Vietnam's Advertising Law, as amended by Law 75/2025/QH15 and in force from 1 January 2026, Article 15a requires influencers to announce an ad immediately before or during the content. Build this into your brief so paid use of a video never looks like an unlabeled recommendation.

9. Reading results without double counting

TikTok says all orders for products you advertise are attributed to Product GMV Max in the Seller Center dashboard, including those from organic content and affiliate orders, and that GMV is calculated for same-day orders with a one-day attribution window. This means the dashboard shows total product results, not what one creator caused.

Keep creator-level reporting in your affiliate reports and check how your Seller Center shows commission and creator revenue before you promise performance bonuses. Do not add GMV Max GMV and affiliate GMV together without checking overlap.

10. Weekly operating checklist

A short weekly routine keeps creator videos healthy inside GMV Max.

  • List which creator videos are authorized and by which route
  • Check expiries on video codes and affiliate collaborations
  • Replace videos with outdated prices, claims or listings
  • Ask top creators for new variations of what is working
  • Reconcile commission payments against affiliate reports, not the GMV Max total
