KOC Booking Cost: What Drives Creator Fees and How to Compare Quotes
KOC booking cost is not set by follower count. It is the sum of what you ask for: the platform and format, how long and where you can reuse the content, whether the creator must turn down competitors, how fast you need it and how many revisions you expect. This guide breaks down those drivers, the four common fee models, and a quote process that lets you compare creators like for like. We deliberately do not publish price ranges, because a range without scope is the fastest way to overpay.

Short answer
What decides the price of booking a KOC?
A KOC fee is driven by real reach and engagement, platform and format, usage rights and paid amplification, exclusivity, timeline, revision rounds and the value of the product supplied. Fees are paid as a flat fee, product gifting, commission through affiliate links, or a hybrid. Compare quotes only after you send every creator the same scope.
- Average views and engagement matter more than followers
- Video and livestream cost more effort than a single image post
- Usage rights, whitelisting and exclusivity are priced separately
- Rush timelines and extra revisions raise the fee
- Hybrid models (fee plus commission) share risk on sales campaigns
1. What determines KOC booking cost?
KOC booking cost is the price of a scope, not of a person. When a creator quotes, they are pricing the hours to script, film and edit, the value of their audience's attention, the rights you take away, and the opportunities they give up. Change any of those and the fair price changes.
That is why one creator can quote two very different numbers for what looks like the same video. The first request was one TikTok video, organic only. The second added a 30-day exclusivity in skincare and permission to run the video as an ad. Those additions are real value and should be priced.
- Audience quality: average views, engagement, audience location and age
- Effort: platform, format, length, scripting and production level
- Rights: organic only, reposting on brand channels, paid ads, duration
- Restrictions: category exclusivity, posting windows, content locks
- Process: timeline, number of revision rounds, approvals, reporting
2. Followers vs engagement: what are you really paying for?
You are paying for attention that is likely to happen again, so average views and engagement on recent content matter more than the follower number. Followers accumulate over years; views show who is watching now.
Ask for, or check, the median views of the last 10 to 15 non-viral posts, the share of audience in Vietnam and in your target cities, and the comment quality. A creator with fewer followers but steady views and real questions in the comments is often better value than a bigger account that spikes once and then goes quiet.
3. How do platform and content format change the fee?
Format is the clearest effort driver. A short TikTok review with a hook, demo and call to action takes scripting, several takes and editing. A livestream ties up the creator for a fixed slot and needs product knowledge, stock coordination and live handling of questions. A single Facebook post or story takes far less.
Platform matters too, because the creator's strength is usually on one platform. Do not assume a strong TikTok KOC will perform the same on Instagram or YouTube; price and plan each platform separately and ask for cross-posting as a bundled option rather than a free extra.
- Short video review (TikTok, Reels, Shorts): script, filming, editing
- Livestream: time slot, rehearsal, live Q&A, often tied to commission
- Static post, carousel or story: lower effort, shorter shelf life
- Long-form YouTube review: highest production effort per piece
- Cross-posting the same asset to a second platform: negotiate as a bundle
4. Why do usage rights and whitelisting cost extra?
Organic posting and advertising are different products. If you only want the video on the creator's channel, the fee covers that. If you want to reuse it on your own page, cut it into ads, or run it as an ad from the creator's account, you are buying additional value and the creator will price it.
On TikTok, creators who tag a brand partner in the content disclosure setting can grant ads authorisation, which TikTok's help centre says is 60 days by default, so the brand can run the video as a Spark Ad. On Meta, creators can allow a brand to run partnership ads. Write the duration, platforms and whether the creator's handle appears into the quote request, so every creator prices the same rights.
5. How does exclusivity affect KOC pricing?
Exclusivity is a payment for the deals a creator turns down. A clause saying "no competing skincare brands for 60 days" can cost the creator real income, especially in busy categories, so expect it to raise the fee.
Keep exclusivity narrow and short. Define the competitor set by product category, not the whole industry, and match the window to the campaign. For many KOC campaigns a short window around the posting date is enough; broad, long exclusivity belongs to ambassador or KOL deals.
6. Do timeline and revision rounds change the price?
Yes. A brief sent today for a video tomorrow pushes other work aside, and most creators charge for rush. Plan at least enough time for product delivery, use of the product, a draft, one round of feedback and posting.
Revisions are the hidden cost most brands create themselves. State in the quote request how many feedback rounds are included and what counts as a revision. Extra rounds caused by changing the brief after filming are fair to pay for; rounds caused by the creator missing mandatory points in the brief are not.
7. How does product value factor into the deal?
The product is part of the compensation. A nano KOC may accept a high-value product instead of a fee, while a low-value sample rarely replaces payment for a full video. Record the product's value in the agreement so both sides understand the exchange.
Note that Vietnam's amended Law on Advertising requires influencers not to present a product they have not used or do not fully understand (Article 15a.3, Law No. 75/2025/QH15). Build time for real use into the timeline and send product documents with the sample. That is both a legal safeguard and the reason KOC content is believable.
8. Which fee model should you use: flat fee, gifting, affiliate or hybrid?
Pick the model that matches who carries the risk. A flat fee puts the sales risk on the brand and guarantees delivery. Commission puts the risk on the creator and only works when the product sells easily and tracking is reliable. Hybrid splits it.
Example: for a TikTok Shop launch of a snack brand, we might offer micro KOCs a smaller fixed fee per video plus affiliate commission on orders, and offer nano KOCs product plus commission only. The fixed part secures the content; the commission rewards creators who actually sell.
- Flat fee: fixed price per deliverable. Best for awareness, content quality and guaranteed posting
- Gifting (barter): product only. Works with nano creators and seeding; still needs written terms and disclosure
- Commission or affiliate: a percentage of tracked sales, often through TikTok Shop or Shopee affiliate tools. Best for proven products
- Hybrid: lower fixed fee plus commission or a performance bonus. The most balanced option for sales campaigns
9. How do you request a KOC quote that can be compared?
Send every creator the same written scope. If one creator prices one video with no rights and another prices two videos with 90 days of ads usage, the cheaper quote is not cheaper. A standard request also shows creators you are organised, which tends to produce cleaner quotes.
Use a short form or message template with the fields below and ask creators to price optional items separately.
- Brand, product and campaign goal in one line
- Platform, format, length and number of deliverables
- Posting window and draft deadline
- Mandatory points, claims to avoid and disclosure requirement
- Usage rights: where, how long, organic or paid, Spark Ads or partnership ads
- Exclusivity: category and duration, if any
- Revision rounds included
- Product supplied and its value
- Fee model offered and payment terms
- Whether the price includes tax and who issues the invoice
10. How do you compare KOC quotes fairly?
Normalise first, then judge. Put every quote in one sheet with the same columns, split the base content fee from rights and exclusivity, and calculate the cost per deliverable and the cost per expected view using each creator's median views. That turns a pile of numbers into a comparison.
Then add judgement. Audience fit, content quality and reliability can justify a higher fee; a low quote from a creator who misses deadlines costs more in the end. Keep the sheet after the campaign and add actual results, so your next round of quotes is compared against real performance, not guesses.
- Columns: creator, platform, deliverables, base fee, rights fee, exclusivity fee, total
- Median views of recent posts and engagement rate
- Cost per deliverable and cost per expected view
- Audience fit score and content quality score
- Reliability notes from past work or references
11. What hidden costs belong in your KOC booking cost budget?
The fee is only part of the cost of a KOC programme. Product samples, shipping, return logistics, the time your team spends briefing and approving, payment processing and tracking tools all scale with the number of creators.
Tax is the other one. Article 15a.2 of the amended Law on Advertising states that advertisement conveyors must meet tax obligations when they earn revenue from advertising services. Agree in writing whether a quote is gross or net, who declares the income and what invoice or receipt the creator will provide. Check the details with your accountant; this article is not tax advice.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is there a standard price list for booking KOCs in Vietnam?
No. Published tables online use different tier definitions and scopes, so they rarely match a real quote. Treat them as rough context at most and always price your actual scope with the creator.
Should I pay KOCs by followers or by engagement?
By expected attention. Recent median views, engagement quality and audience location predict results better than follower count, so use them to judge whether a quote is fair.
Is commission-only fair for KOCs?
It can be, for products that sell easily and when tracking through TikTok Shop or Shopee affiliate is reliable. For new products or awareness goals, commission-only shifts too much risk to the creator and good KOCs will decline or deprioritise it.
Do KOC quotes include usage rights?
Usually only organic posting on the creator's own channel. Reposting on brand pages, running Spark Ads or partnership ads, and longer usage periods are normally priced separately, so list them in your request.
Does a KOC booking cost quote include tax?
It depends on the agreement. Creators have tax obligations on advertising income under Article 15a of Law No. 75/2025/QH15, so agree whether the price is gross or net and how invoicing works before you confirm.
